Clipping the nails of a dog can be very stressful for a dog. By using positive small steps we can change this from a very stressful event to something the dog really would not mind. First we show the dog that touching and holding his paw is not that bad, and then by conditioning the clipper we can change the dog’s emotional response to the whole process. For this we use food. By first pairing food with touching his paws, and then by also pairing food with the clipper we change the experience from a very stressful event to an event the dog don’t mind. The dog in the end associate clipping nails with something good, food.
